“The Lord is the refuge of the poor”
In his message, Pope Leo XIV challenges us to do more than speak about poverty. He calls us to action, to stand alongside them and ultimately be a refuge for the poor. A refuge of hope. This is the theme of this year’s World Day of the Poor, on the 33rd Sunday of Ordinary Time.
This call speaks directly to the heart of the mission of the Society of Saint Vincent de Paul.
In recognition of the poor among us, the Society of Saint Vincent de Paul, Our Lady of Guadalupe Conference will be hosting a Canned Food Drive throughout the month of November.
Canned Food Drive · November 1–30, 2026
Goal: 1,000 pounds of canned goods
CAN we do it… Yes we CAN!
What to donate
Shopping carts will be available for your contributions of the following suggested items:
- Meal-in-a-can items such as Chunky Soups, Chili, Stew
- Canned protein items such as pork and beans, canned fish
- Canned vegetables and soups
- Canned tomato products used for making pasta meals
- Packaged items also greatly appreciated
All donations will be delivered to Campbell River households in need.
